Sources of SPL Limitation

It is a common assumption and a misunderstanding of what the places limits on how loud the speaker can play. It is generally believed that the power (power) is all set this limit. But the reality is very intuitive at the same time is a bit 'more complicated.

There are really three factors that limit the "pure" achievable SPL from a loudspeaker, and their presence varies with frequency. At lower frequencies, the exact definition of down to the size of the speaker comes from the SPL in general limited by Xmax (peak deviation) of the enclosure. As the wavelength of these low frequencies is long motor mounting (magnet and coil) does not need to significantly accelerate cone (regulated by F = ma). Rather than dominating force is necessary to oust the President against the suspension spring-like (regulated by F = kx). Therefore, the SPL at low frequencies is limited by the cone of maximum shear walls can crawl.

Above these frequencies, the maximum SPL generally limited by the available energy of the amplifier. This is because the higher frequencies require a much higher acceleration of the cone and therefore F = ma becomes dominant. At even higher frequencies, the limits of the power handling of the SPL of the speaker of the coil as it falls below the increase in energy consumption at a few dB. The third source of SPL limitation that sometimes arises is around the top of the speaker impedance. The voltage of the amplifier is limited and essentially constant so near and around this peak impedance constant voltage requires a lower current. This reduces the effect of the amplifier and therefore SPL at that frequency.

Caraudio

The general conclusions that can be learned from this ... greater ability of the amplifier does not always mean a stronger system. To produce stronger low-frequency (35 Hz + / - 15 Hz ~), a Car audio subwoofer with more travel or more Car audio subwoofers are necessary because power is the main requirement, but moving the cone. Volume of production of higher power amplifier is the most required and the limitation is set by the power handling speakers. Once this limit the speaker coil is required to produce more volume above that frequency. Therefore, low frequencies do not require energy, high frequencies do. But the definition of the high power, of course, depends on the sensitivity of the driver.
